About You

Data is the driver of our future at Cars Commerce. We’re on the lookout for a collaborative, analytical, and innovative engineer to build scalable, high-performance platforms, systems, and tools for data-driven innovation. Responsibilities Include

• Building data pipelines and deriving insights using advanced analytics, streaming, and machine learning at scale.
• Working within a dynamic, forward-thinking team to design, develop, and maintain crucial Big Data and Machine Learning applications.
• Deploying and supporting data pipelines and ML models in production.
• Collaborating closely with other Engineering teams, including Data Science, and cross-functional teams like Product Management & Product Design.
• Mentoring team members and sharing your knowledge across the Cars.com organization.

Required Skills

• Capability to develop Spark jobs to cleanse/enrich/process large amounts of data.
• Experience developing jobs to read from various source systems such as Kafka, databases, APIs, and files.
• Proficiency in tuning Spark jobs for efficient performance, including execution time and memory optimization.
• Understanding of various file formats and compression techniques.
• Experience with source code management systems like GitHub and developing CI/CD pipelines with tools such as Jenkins.
• Deep understanding of major business architecture and capability to articulate its scaling and reliability limits; ability to design, develop, and debug at an enterprise level.
• Experience mentoring developers and leading complex projects.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Required Experience

• Data Engineering | 6+ years of designing & developing complex applications at enterprise scale; proficiency in Python, PySpark, and/or Scala.
• Big Data Ecosystem | 4+ years of hands-on experience with tools and platforms like Spark, EMR, Kafka.
• AWS Cloud | 2+ years of experience in developing Big Data applications in the cloud, specifically AWS.

Preferred

• Experience with developing REST APIs.
• Experience deploying ML models into production and integrating them into applications.
• Experience with machine learning/deep learning using R, Python, Jupyter, Zeppelin, TensorFlow, etc.
• Experience developing real-time data analytics using Spark Streaming, Kafka, etc.

Salary Range

$131,400—$164,300 USD

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position. This range does not include bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation that may be available.
