About the Team and Role
Join Mozilla's Innovation Studio, a dynamic environment of innovative professionals focused on building new products. We are seeking a talented Staff ML Engineer to lead technical efforts for a new product line. As the first technical hire, you will shape and build groundbreaking projects, collaborating with a cross-functional team including design, development, and product management.
Responsibilities
- Lead the operationalization of ML for a new product involving retrieval-augmented generation and workflow automation
- Develop and execute a scalable approach to machine learning and generative AI aligned with project and organizational goals
- Prototype cutting-edge ML experiments
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers, product managers, and engineers to integrate best practices into emerging products
- Stay updated with advancements in ML, data science, NLP, and generative AI, and apply relevant techniques
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as an Engineer focused on Machine Learning
- High proficiency in deep learning, NLP, multimodal models, reinforcement learning, and fine-tuning
- Experience with model training pipelines and architectures like Transformers and RNNs
- Strong knowledge of Python and experience with vector databases (e.g., Chroma, Pinecone)
- Familiarity with cloud services like Google Cloud Platform or AWS
- Experience in startup or lean environments
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Passion for building AI-driven products
- Comfortable with ambiguity and the unknown
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with scalable applications with 100k+ users
- Knowledge of data security best practices
- Experience with prompt engineering strategies and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
- Proficiency with ML development frameworks like Langchain
- Experience integrating solutions into modern web frameworks like React or Svelte
- Strong background in other programming languages such as JavaScript
- Familiarity with Data Science or Data Infrastructure principles
