Role Overview: Staff Production Engineer - Platform

This Hybrid role requires working 2-3 days onsite at a designated company location and occasionally from home. Our Platform Team seeks engineers to create tools and services supporting visual effects, feature animation, and real-time content production. Key Responsibilities

As a Staff Production Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate with engineers across ILM's studios on long-term software projects and daily artist support.
  • Develop and deploy next-gen machine learning tools with R&D teams.
  • Ensure applications are scalable, reliable, and performant.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain high-scale distributed services.
  • Build and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
  • Integrate SRE and MLOps practices into our infrastructure.
  • Continuously improve application infrastructure and processes.
  • Contribute to discussions about the future of ILM’s developer platform.
  • Provide critical support during service downtimes.

Qualifications and Skills

Successful candidates will have:

  • Knowledge of visual effects principles such as modeling, animation, lighting, rendering, and image processing.
  • A deep appreciation of software development principles: object-oriented design, test-driven development, source code management, and build/release processes.
  • Experience with MLOps techniques, processes, and tools.
  • Expert knowledge of Python and Linux.
  • Familiarity with network and application protocols like NFS, TCP, gRPC, and HTTP.
  • Experience with relational or NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, and Elasticsearch.
  • Proven experience building and operating Kubernetes clusters in production.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency with monitoring and logging tools such as ELK stack, Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog.
  • Knowledge of SRE practices.
  • Experience designing and implementing multi-region distributed systems.

Education and Experience

Candidates should have:

  • BS or advanced degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years or demonstrated experience in professional software development and/or VFX production.

Join Our Team

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$137,300 to C$175,800 per year. The actual base pay will reflect internal equity and may vary based on geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Additional benefits may include medical, financial, and other variable pay or benefits, depending on the position offered.
