Internship Role and Responsibilities

As a Deep Learning Intern in our Innovation, Development, and Technology (IDT) team, you will collaborate closely with experienced researchers to develop a deep learning research project template on GitHub. This is designed as a comprehensive solution for newcomers at Mila, facilitating a seamless initiation into our research processes and enabling experiments on both Mila's and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada’s computing clusters.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Utilizing software tools relevant to the assigned research domain.
• Creating Python scripts for training models in deep learning.
• Implementing best practices for the training and deployment of deep learning systems.
• Establishing continuous deployment, validation, and maintenance frameworks for projects.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to refine research examples.
• Documenting all aspects of your work, including code and system operations.

Secondary Objectives

If time permits, your secondary goal will be to use the template to kickstart a new research project in an active field like reinforcement learning or NLP. This phase will provide a practical demonstration of the template’s utility and promote good developmental practices within deep learning research.

Candidate Requirements

Prospective interns should be pursuing or have completed degrees in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. Additional requirements include:

• Proficient in Python programming with an understanding of data science libraries like Numpy and PyTorch.
• Experience in data science and familiarity with development tools such as Git.
• Strong interpersonal skills and capability to work independently.
• Bilingualism is advantageous, as it will aid in interactions with English-speaking partners.
