About this team and role:
As part of your tenure as a Senior Data Engineer at Mozilla, your primary role will involve our Analytics Engineering team. This team is responsible for data modeling, ensuring accessible and format-appropriate data for Mozilla's consumption, thereby reinforcing data-informed decision making. The team also aims to maintain and enhance our data platform. Recent improvements include the introduction of a data catalog, integrated data quality checks and more. What you’ll do:
- Collaborate with fellow data engineers on the design and maintenance of scalable data models and ETL pipelines.
- Contribute to the design and construction of infrastructure for data ingestion, storage, and transformation, handling tens of terabytes daily.
- Help in designing and creating systems to monitor and analyze data from Mozilla’s products.
- Work with data scientists to answer queries and guide product decision-making.
What you’ll bring:
- Minimum 3 years of professional data engineering experience.
- Proficiency in the programming languages used by our teams (SQL and Python).
- Strong fundamentals in software engineering such as modularity, abstraction, data structures, and algorithms.
- Cooperative work ethic with a distributed team.
- Proficiency in one or more of the areas listed below and a willingness to learn about others:
o Experience in utilizing data to answer specific questions, thereby guiding company decisions.
o Opinionated nature about data models and their implementation; partnering with others to map out a business process, profile existing data, design and build flexible data models for analysis.
o Experience in recommending/implementing new data collection to enhance the quality of data models.
o Familiarity with data infrastructure including databases, message queues, batch and stream processing.
o Experience in constructing modular and reusable ETL/ELT pipelines in distributed databases
o Background in highly scalable distributed systems hosted on cloud providers (e.g., Google Cloud Platform).
