Position Summary
Data Scientists at Domo are client-facing experts working with Domo’s strategic clients to develop custom production data science solutions that address and improve business challenges. Domo Data Scientists also closely collaborate with Domo’s Product Team to inform and develop data science products that enhance Domo use and adoption. This role necessitates data scientists to understand and exhibit competence in four knowledge domains: data engineering, model building, customer and initiative management, and problem-solving. These domains pertain to all aspects of constructing production data science and machine learning pipelines in Domo—including use case discovery, ROI estimation and tracking, data ingestion, data preparation and cleaning, feature engineering, modeling, training, productionizing, and creating technical and end-user dashboards.
The schedule is balanced between calls and on-site interactions with Domo clients, with autonomous time allocated to informing and constructing data science products and solutions. Additionally, data scientists on this team are educators and trainers, with a strong emphasis on propagating data science best practices and enabling customers to understand and own their Domo data science solutions.
Data Scientists at Domo are encouraged to undertake projects that elevate clients’ user experience and advance the vision of data science at Domo. This may involve contributing to the construction of Domo data science products, designing and developing apps, writing knowledge base articles, creating sales and marketing solutions, or contributing to Domo-sponsored published works.
At the senior level, data scientists are expected to show expert knowledge and industry respect and longevity in at least two of the four knowledge domains (data engineering, model building, customer and initiative management, and problem-solving). Thought leadership and expertise for Senior-level data scientists can be demonstrated through a cohesive body of work as evidenced in a portfolio of production DSML projects, publications, presentations, reports, patents, and other industry-relevant accomplishments.
Job Requirements
- University degree or equivalent industry experience with an emphasis in data science, statistics, behavioral science, computer science, or related field;
- Strong R and/or Python skills (5+ years);
- Knowledge and demonstrated application of various statistical and data science approaches;
- Portfolio of at least one completed data science and/or statistics project, including visualizations, presentations, reports, etc.;
- Experience in any type of customer-facing role (2+ years);
- Ability to travel for work as much as 20% of the time;
- Strong written and verbal skills;
- Attention to detail;
- Excellent time management skills.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Master’s Degree or PhD with an emphasis in data science, statistics, behavioral science, computer science, or related field;
- Portfolio of independently completed data science and/or statistical projects, including visualizations, presentations, reports, etc. (an industry-specific portfolio is preferred);
- Evidence of developing and deploying business-relevant data science or machine learning solutions in production;
- Experience teaching statistics and/or data science, with evidence of success (such as favorable course evaluations, etc.);
- Project management experience;
- Experience using Domo (1+ years).
