About the Opportunity
The Associate Director, Data Analytics within the College of Science (COS), Office of the Dean will have two main roles: gathering, verifying, analyzing and reporting on data related to the College, as well as providing exceptional support for the design, launch, and execution of a variety of COS special projects. The Associate Director, Data Analytics will work closely with the Dean, Associate Deans, and the Department / Unit leadership team, regularly reviewing sensitive or complex information, and contributing their expertise to project organization and advancing the strategic goals of the College. The Associate Director, Data Analytics’s command of data and information, combined with their organizational skills, will further COS growth across Northeastern’s Global Network.
Specifically, under the guidance of the Associate Dean of Administration and Finance (ADAF), the Associate Director, Data Analytics will:
- Create and maintain internal data repositories and crucial reports on College statistics,
- Collaborate with the College leadership team to track and measure progress on the Strategic Plan,
- Act as a coordinator of key College events,
- Collaborate with College leadership to track and manage special projects as assigned, including but not limited to COS initiative launches in the Northeastern Global Network,
- Work with College teams to design and implement process improvement projects,
- Collaborate with other University offices to understand data, process alterations, new systems, or new projects and disseminate, explain, or train College personnel as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
College Strategic Plan Coordination
- Operate closely with the Dean and other College leadership to understand current College strategic goals and their context or priority in relation to the overall COS Strategic Plan.
- Develop and maintain an internal tracking system for collating contributions to each goal, progress on specific goals, and other related achievements.
- Work with College data stakeholders or directly with University data sources to create and maintain key reports on College statistics, organized by department and area.
- Prepare a range of dashboard reports and other insightful summaries for various audiences on the state of the Strategic Plan, and related work such as COS Annual Reports.
- Design and manage the creation of interactive and informative presentations of the Strategic Plan to the COS community. Develop innovative methods for students, faculty, staff, and friends of the College to understand and engage with the Strategic Plan.
Data Management and Analysis
- Under the guidance of the ADAF, develop a range of ad-hoc and ongoing reports for College leadership, leveraging University data sources to report on COS admissions, enrollments, retention, teaching, research, and related operations.
- Collaborate with various College teams (research, finance, undergraduate, graduate) to build predictive models and analyses that will deliver insights and aid their work.
- Gather and unify data on College of Science programs across the Global Network. Working with the relevant Associate Dean(s), project program performance and analyze outcomes. Model the return on investment (academic, financial, reputation) for offerings at various Network sites. Prepare reports and assist with the implementation of special initiatives across the Global Network.
- Collect, verify, and present data on demand for the Dean or for the ADAF.
- Build annual internal dashboards for Dean and College leadership, to be used for internal reference and to inform external sources (website, annual report, etc.)
- Serve as Data Liaison between College and University Decision Support, including the dissemination of best practices and assisting College leadership in fulfilling data security standards.
Project Management Support
- As directed by the ADAF, manage special projects for the College which may include summarizing, prioritizing, and triaging project challenges and barriers.
- Actively work with stakeholders to understand project aims and current progress and assist by creating a detailed project plan, organizing materials, providing data, organizing meetings, or taking other necessary steps to advance the progress of the project in question.
- Track projects and write clear and succinct updates for ADAF and/or project sponsors, emphasizing key decision points, delays, obstacles, or other information requiring escalation.
- Identify complementary or parallel projects and explore possible synergies and efficiencies by combining efforts.
- Prepare other project collateral, draft or review reports, provide in-depth data or analysis to decision-makers as needed.
- When designated by ADAF, act as the coordinating point person for key College efforts where different staff or volunteers may need organization and direction to execute an event or special project.
Special Projects as Assigned
- Proactively seek out opportunities for internal process improvement and make recommendations to the ADAF.
- Serve on temporary “embedded” assignments within COS operational teams to assist with more intensive project management needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree preferred
- 3-5 years’ demonstrated experience in data collection and analysis
- Demonstrated experience leading or significantly contributing to complex, high-impact projects
- High degree of comfort with new systems or technology platforms and/or willingness to learn
- Organized, with an ability to work with multiple offices, stakeholders, and partners
