Job Description

We are seeking a Data Scientist to join our Risk Machine Learning & Decision Science team. Your role will be to develop processes to eradicate high-risk activities across the Square product suite. Furthermore, you will manage top-level Risk KPIs, set core operational metrics, and implement improvements through machine learning solutions or analysis.

An essential part of the Risk Data Scientist's role will be to use analytical skills to identify and mitigate payment risks. You will lead experiments to enhance Risk efficacy throughout Square. Alongside product, engineering, operations, policy, and sales teams, you will play a role in influencing Square's global Risk strategy and processes. You'll take charge of key metrics, develop data pipelines, and ETL. Directly impacting our key success metrics via building machine learning solutions, risk detection rule development and deployment will also be part of your remit.

You Will:

• Identify problems and develop persuasive, data-driven solutions
• Design and maintain multiple data pipelines and ETLs
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and operation teams to devise solutions to business issues, influence product roadmaps, and develop new products/processes
• Have the opportunity to use machine learning tools to create data-driven solutions
• Encourage innovative risk solutions through third-party assessment and integration with a focus on improving the seller experience
• Create executive presentations for Square's leadership

Qualifications

• A BS/BA in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, or a related quantitative/technical field
• 7+ years of relevant experience (or a master's and 4+ years)
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Looker
• Experience with machine learning model development and deployment
• Experience driving data-driven solutions and project-managing their implementation
• Experience responding to unstructured queries and managing projects and tasks to completion
• A passion for Square's mission
• Experience in risk, trust and safety, payments, or spam prevention

Additional Information

Block adopts a market-driven approach to remuneration, and salary may vary based on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The starting salary of the successful candidate will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone B: USD $144,500 - USD $176,700
Zone C: USD $136,900 - USD $167,300
