Job Description

What we expect from you, day to day:

The Data Scientist graduate is a crucial member of the customer-facing Data Science Lab team in Europe. As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of analytics-driven strategies and solutions for Visa's external customers in Europe. In this role, you will collaborate with VCA and various internal divisions, their senior executives and our clients to promote a culture driven by insights, imaginative and advanced analytic solutions, and best practices to enhance business performance with a clear commercial 'value' and measurable 'return'. Half of your day will be spent delivering the project (coding/working with data) while the other half will be devoted to discussing data needs, and managing internal and external meetings. Please consider that our workload varies greatly as each project is very unique—we might be delivering a CSV file one time, a predictive machine learning model another time, or segmentation. Whatever the solution, you will participate in the entire process starting from gathering client requirements all the way to providing actionable insights enabling our clients to make data-driven business decisions.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Promotes the innovative use of data science to solve business issues with external clients.
  • Cooperates with VCA consultants in the market to foster business development opportunities in data science across key accounts to meet VCA revenue targets.
  • Applies data science and predictive techniques that can enhance client profitability across acquisition and retention.
  • Works with VCA consultants to carry out VisaNet data analysis on key metrics to point out key P&L opportunities to increase revenue for our clients and Visa.
  • Creates and delivers compelling business-focused insights from data through better visualization and storyboarding.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to understand business requirements and desired business outcomes.
  • Executes efficiently in managing multiple medium to large data science projects along with the rest of the stakeholders in the project team.
  • Defines specific analytic scope and methodology and creates analytic plans.
  • Implements the analytic plans using appropriate data mining and statistical techniques.
  • Ensures project delivery within schedule and budget requirements.
  • Ensures all project documentation is current and all projects are reviewed according to the analytic plan.
  • Enhances existing solutions and methods by promoting new techniques and best practices in the data science field.
  • Provides subject matter expertise and quality assurance for complicated data science projects.
  • Automates processes/codes.
  • Becomes familiar with new tools/software/techniques.

Qualifications

What we're looking for...

  • Planning to graduate in 2024 from a graduate or postgraduate degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in a Quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Operational Research, Computer Science, Economics, or engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Results oriented with robust analytical, consultative, and problem-solving abilities, with proven intellectual and analytical rigor.
  • Familiar with modern distributed systems, including Hadoop/SQL/MLP and Apache Spark etc.
  • Familiar with one or more data analytics/programming tools such as R or Python.
  • Knowledge of applying predictive modelling and machine learning techniques to problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interest in working in a consulting-like environment and client-facing project roles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant degree in data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics or similar field.
  • Experience with coding (SQL/Python/R).
  • Passion for processing extremely large datasets. Knowledge of payment network transaction data is a plus.
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible style, with the ability to tailor data-driven results to various audience levels.
  • Proven skills in translating analytics output into actionable recommendations and delivery.
  • Fluency in English.
