Job Description

As a Manager of Data Engineering, you will head a data engineering team answering to the Director of Data Engineering: developing new or enhancing existing data products as we create a metadata-driven, large data solution, processing and transforming data to generate high-quality data assets for our clients. You'll cooperate with keen Data Engineers to resolve complex issues. You'll team up with Operations and Delivery teams to provide market-centered data solutions to our customers. You will provide hands-on technical leadership, guidance, coaching, and mentoring for your global team members, managing and assigning technical tasks, and ensuring we continuously improve and create high-quality solutions. You'll lead and grow a data engineering team that embraces change, is always improving, and rapidly constructs, tests, enhances, and scales data transformation solutions that increase business value for our clients and partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create or compile large, complex data sets that satisfy functional and non-functional business needs
  • Document requirements from end-users to development user stories, capturing all necessary details and acceptance criteria
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process enhancements: automating manual processes, optimizing data builds, and implementing data QA and reporting
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams, such as Identity and Data Science teams, to develop strategic roadmaps, create new data products, and manage priorities to meet business demands, ensuring each team has the necessary data
  • Manage a budget, which includes infrastructure, software, and cloud-based costs
  • Provide daily hands-on coaching and mentoring to team members, offering strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting expertise and guidance
  • Review designs, codes, plans, strategies, etc., as well as assess data results to ensure we deliver high-quality solutions
  • Evaluate and implement improvements in processes and procedures, considering new methods, industry standards, new tools, etc.
  • Grow and lead a motivated team that produces high-quality solutions, achieving targets and delivering results
  • Collaborate with Product Management and IT to create and maintain a robust work environment for development which includes infrastructure and agile processes
  • Lead the development of Proof of Concepts for new or updated data assets
  • Triage data build or release issues as required
  • Support integration with internal solutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or other equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience with data engineering, data modeling and/or data processing
  • 8+ years' experience of team leadership
  • 8+ years' or equivalent experience of developing production-grade systems, applications, or big data solutions
  • 5+ years' experience with SQL, relational databases, and data warehouses
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with Snowflake
  • Experience in cloud-based technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience working in Agile teams and CI/CD environments
  • Experience with Linux; experience with Windows is a plus
  • Experience with Jenkins, Airflow, or other orchestration tools
  • Experience with code repositories such as Git, Bitbucket, Github, etc.
  • Experience with Tableau is a bonus

Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills working with B2B, B2C, and Digital data assets for customer experience marketing and analytics
  • Perform root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify improvement opportunities
  • Develop processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
  • Manipulate, process and extract value from large disconnected data sets
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills
  • Familiarity with statistical concepts, modeling, and the ability to integrate data and analytics
  • Inspire while instilling accountability that meets business expectations
  • Collaborate across organizations at all levels of leadership to develop plans, strategies, and establish priorities
  • Communicate complex topics with simplicity and ease such that agreement or approval is obtained

Additional Information

The anticipated salary range for this position is $113,000-$174,500. The actual salary will be determined by factors like relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other legally allowable factors.
