The University of Birmingham's Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences is seeking a highly motivated PhD graduate or post-doctoral data scientist. About the Role

Join our esteemed Centre for Health Data Science, collaborating with experts in digital epidemiology, clinical bioinformatics, learning health systems, and AI for health. You will spearhead the EU-funded Hypermarker project, aiming to create an AI-driven decision support tool for predicting antihypertensive treatment responses. Your work will involve managing large clinical datasets, applying advanced statistical and machine learning techniques, and contributing to translational medicine.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop integrative strategies for diverse omics data to investigate complex diseases.
• Apply statistical, machine learning, and deep learning algorithms to multi-omics datasets.
• Manage and analyze large datasets, ensuring efficient data structures and sharing resources.
• Lead novel research applications and large, diverse projects.
• Develop research objectives and proposals, with or without mentor assistance.
• Disseminate research findings via publications and seminars.
• Supervise and guide students on research-related work.
• Contribute to developing new models and methods.
• Collect research data through various methods, including experimentation and literature reviews.
• Present research outputs at seminars and conferences.
• Foster an inclusive working culture and promote equality and diversity.

Candidate Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD (or near completion) in health data science, computer science, artificial intelligence, computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field, with a strong background in omics data analysis. Essential skills include:

• Proficiency in R/Python and bioinformatics libraries such as Bioconductor.
• Experience with high-performance computing and Linux systems.
• Ability to independently manage scientific projects and collaborate in a diverse environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for scientific papers and complex idea explanations.
