Following our initiation of facilitating anyone to accept payments and never miss a sale, we identified that sellers were hampered by disjointed, obsolete products and tools that wouldn’t cooperate.

Hence, we ventured into software and started creating integrated, omnichannel solutions – to assist sellers sell online, manage inventory, provide buy now, pay later functionality via Afterpay, schedule appointments, engage loyal customers, and hire and pay staff. Job Description

The Square eCommerce team is committed to making it exceptionally easy for anyone to sell online. This role will concentrate on working with the product team to develop and enhance the Square eCommerce experience. The ideal candidate loves and appreciates seeing the effects of their work reflected in product alterations and improvements. The role will guide you through working on the product from start to finish, considering everything from how a seller establishes their online presence to how a shopper browses online. You will develop analyses using a plentiful dataset to track feature usage and performance, identify potential gaps and opportunities, and make recommendations to stakeholders. This role will push you to think tactically and contribute to high-level discussions with senior leadership and peers throughout Square.

You Will:

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and strategy leaders to enhance the product. Ensure the right questions are being asked, solicit feedback, and continue iterating until you reach significant conclusions validated by well-founded analysis.
  • Plan and analyze A/B tests to assess the impact of alterations made to the product.
  • Incorporate a diverse set of strategies such as statistics, quantitative reasoning, and machine learning to investigate and produce insights.
  • Utilize SQL on a routine basis to develop data pipelines, draft complex queries, and conduct analysis.
  • Express analysis and decisions to top-tier partners and executives via verbal, visual, and written mediums.
  • Create resources to encourage data accessibility and self-service, allowing your expertise to be utilized where it's most needed.
  • Develop, debug, and enhance data models. Our product moves rapidly and new data doesn’t always integrate seamlessly with existing models. Consider how to ingest and store data in the most effective and scalable format.
  • Specify KPIs, create ETLs, construct dashboards and other tools for yourself and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of analytics and data science experience or an equivalent
  • Previous experience building relationships to influence product partners using data
  • Experience heading cross-functional projects that depend on contributions from individuals in multiple disciplines
  • Experience applying both statistical and machine-learning techniques to address practical product issues such as predicting churn, defining frameworks for measuring success, and clustering user archetypes
  • Familiarity with data warehouse design and best practices
  • Proficiency with data, analytics, and visualization technologies (we use SQL, Looker, and Python).

Nice to have: 

  • M.S or Ph.D. in a quantitative field (mathematics, statistics, or a similar STEM field)
  • Prior experience working on product & platform initiatives focused on measuring platform success

Additional Information

Block takes a market-centered approach to compensation, and pay may vary based on your location. Canada locations are categorized into either of two zones based on a cost of labor index for that particular area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges can be adjusted in the future.
