Job Description

Our Data Science team turns unique datasets into actionable insights that enhance our customer experience daily. As a Senior Data Scientist embedded in our Operating Systems organization, you will closely collaborate with product management and other cross-functional teams. You will play a critical role in shaping the Cash App experience, driving customer acquisition, onboarding, product discovery, engagement, and retention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze large datasets using SQL and scripting languages to provide actionable insights and opportunities.
  • Employ a variety of statistical and mathematical modeling techniques to understand customer behavior from first principles.
  • Design and analyze A/B experiments to assess the impact of product changes.
  • Collaborate with engineers to log new, valuable data sources as we develop new features.
  • Build, forecast, and report on metrics to drive strategy and decision-making.
  • Write code for processing, cleansing, and combining data sources into curated ETL datasets.
  • Create and share data visualizations and self-serve dashboards with your team.
  • Effectively communicate your findings to team leads and cross-functional stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, data science, or a related STEM field with 7+ years of relevant experience; OR a graduate degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker).
  • Experience with scripting and data analysis programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Proven expertise in cohort and funnel analyses, including a deep understanding of statistical concepts like selection bias, probability distributions, and conditional probabilities.

Additional Information

Block adopts a market-based approach to compensation, varying by geographic location within the U.S. based on a cost-of-labor index. The starting pay for the successful candidate will be based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges are subject to future adjustments:

  • Zone A: USD $171,800 - USD $257,600
  • Zone B: USD $163,200 - USD $244,800
  • Zone C: USD $154,600 - USD $232,000
  • Zone D: USD $146,000 - USD $219,000
