Sponsored Display (SD) is the first self-service display advertising offering from Amazon Advertising. It allows any advertiser - regardless of budget, advertising expertise, or technical knowledge - to establish display campaigns that feature ads on key placements across Amazon websites and apps (Amazon.com, Twitch, IMDb), devices (Kindle, Fire Tablet, Fire TV, Echo), third-party websites (like nytimes.com), and mobile apps.
About this role:
In this role as a Senior Data Scientist, you will:
- Lead Data Science solutions from inception to completion.
- Independently handle intricate, large-scale problems with complexity and ambiguity.
- Write code (Python, R, Scala, SQL, etc.) to collect, manipulate, and analyze data.
- Develop Machine Learning and statistical models to address specific business issues.
- Retrieve, synthesize, and present crucial data in a format directly useful to answer specific questions or improve system performance.
- Examine past data to identify trends and aid in optimal decision-making.
- Apply statistical and machine learning knowledge to specific business issues and data.
- Set formal assumptions about how our systems should perform, make statistical definitions of outliers, and develop methods to systematically identify these outliers. Learn why these examples are outliers and determine if any actions are needed.
- Identify anomalies through anecdotes or generate automatic scripts, take a deep dive to explain why they occur, and identify fixes.
- Create decision-making models and propose effective solutions to the business problems you define.
- Deliver written and verbal presentations to share insights with audiences of varying technical sophistication.

Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience with data querying languages (e.g., SQL), scripting languages (e.g., Python), or statistical/mathematical software (e.g., R, SAS, Matlab.)
- 4+ years of data scientist experience
- Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience with data visualization using AWS QuickSight, Tableau, R Shiny, etc.
- Experience managing data pipelines
- Leadership and mentorship experience in a data science team
- Experience with data applications using large-scale distributed systems (e.g., EMR, Spark, Elasticsearch, Hadoop, Pig and Hive).

Our compensation encompasses the labor costs across various US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is determined by factors including market location and can vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon provides total compensation.
