Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are transforming the way business is conducted on a global scale. sennder is a European digital freight forwarder that uses a data-centric problem-solving approach to develop the next generation of supply chain and road logistics services. Do you want to help us shape the future?
We are in search of a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join our central Machine Learning Engineering teams, as part of the sennAI department. The aim of this department is to accomplish “Automated & Data-Driven Road Logistics". We are a large, diverse, and multidisciplinary group of ML & AI engineers, data scientists, backend/frontend engineers, and technical product individuals who are enthusiastic about the new AI-powered digitalization wave changing our world. We aim to attract, retain, and nurture top-tier talent to form an incredible group that can provide you with the most productive and growth-friendly period of your career.
The purpose of sennAI is to develop proprietary technology that can automate sales, brokerage, and other business activities. This automation can initiate a cycle where data acquisition and revenues grow exponentially alongside each other. The scope of our teams is to create top-tier predictive analytics services while approaching ML Engineering holistically, from ML modelling best practices to the engineering excellence of our MLOps Platform that elevates the developer experience.
Every day, we collect over 3 Million new real-time data points (increasing each day!) about the road logistics industry in Europe. This data is used to build the future of logistics marketplaces where pricing optimization, load-to-carrier recommendation, load search, and network optimization are done automatically. Can you grasp where we can take this with your help? Let’s #keepOnTrucking, together!
In this role, you will:
- Set new standards for machine learning engineering in road logistics services.
- Apply data science concepts to solve issues such as pricing optimization, load-to-carrier recommendation, load search, and logistics network optimization, among others.
- Mentor engineers of all levels, guiding them towards successful and impactful software deliveries.
- Review technical roadmaps and deliveries across teams.
- Design and develop tools for monitoring the health and performance (MLOps) of data pipelines and the machine learning services in production.
- Lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide on available technologies.
- Review code developed by other developers, provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g. style guidelines, code checking in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Guide cross-team efforts on technical dependency discovering and/or matching, cross-domain architectural design, and overall AI-related topics.
- Uphold the best principles in ML System Design by balancing feedback loops on data exploitation and data acquisition, adhere to the 80/20 rule, focus on the right metric in each design decision, and when a considerable amount of value is created, launch, evaluate, learn and iterate.
We are looking for:
- Highly motivated individuals with excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- 4+ years of experience in deploying and maintaining production data pipelines working at scale, which are fueling and/or being fueled by machine learning models in production.
- Above-average Python software engineering skills, including best practices like CI/CD and Git.
- 2+ years of experience with modern MLOps setups.
- Team-oriented individuals. We value teams more than individual heroes: teams own products and are the single unit of work :)
- Substantial experience with Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Scrumban, Kanban, XP) and project management tools (e.g. JIRA).
- A consensus-building approach, a focus on the bigger picture, and the ability to disagree and commit in order to establish a bias toward action by default.
- A solid understanding of the machine learning product lifecycle and the commonly associated components (MLOps): Experimental Environment (e.g. Jupyter Notebook, MLflow) Workflow management (e.g. Air-flow), Feature Stores (e.g. Feast), DataOps/Pipelines (e.g. Kafka), Model Deployment (e.g. Terraform), Testing, Serving (e.g. Docker, Flask), Monitoring (e.g. Datadog), Model Repository (e.g. DVC).
*The list of technologies/methodologies is for illustration purposes. You are not expected to have experience in each of these technologies, but you are expected to know these challenges very well, including the associated solution spaces.
Bonus:
- Deep knowledge of the theory and expertise in the application of Machine Learning.
- Experience with the following MLOps stack: BentoML for model serving, Weights & Biases for Experimentation Platform, Ray for model training, and Flyte for the orchestration of ML Workflows.
- PhD in Machine Learning and/or data mining fundamental topics and/or non-trivial applications of ML/DM foundations.
- A top-tier academic track on ML related conferences (e.g. KDD, NeurIPS, ICML, AAAI, ECML/PKDD).
