Senior Product Manager, Data Engineering at Wayfair

Our Search, Marketing, and Recommendations Technology Science Team (SMART) develops and oversees machine learning (ML) products driving search, marketing, and personalized recommendations across Wayfair. Our algorithms address diverse challenges from supplier product cataloging to customer discovery and purchase experiences, as well as enhancing marketing at scale.
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Product Manager to join our team, focusing on supporting the Data Engineering organization. In this role, you will drive the data strategy for initiatives including search experience, product recommendations, personalization, ads data, marketing attribution, and segmentation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data tooling and engineering, product management, business acumen, and experience working with Google native tools and third-party data vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and Own Data Strategy: Develop and implement the data strategy for all marketing data initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives and driving actionable insights.
- Backlog Management: Proactively manage data engineering projects, prioritizing based on business needs, resource availability, and strategic objectives.
- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, communicating progress, challenges, and opportunities related to data engineering initiatives.
- Roadmap Prioritization: Own and prioritize the 6-12 month roadmap, making trade-offs as necessary to ensure alignment with business goals and resource constraints.
- Initiative Definition and Success Metrics: Define initiatives, scope, and success metrics, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and accountability.
- Usability for Data Science and Machine Learning Teams: Ensure the output of data engineering initiatives is usable by data science, analytics, and machine learning teams.
Desired Experience
- Experience in data tooling and data engineering, focusing on marketing/ads data.
- Strong business intuition and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Moderate SQL knowledge, with experience using it as an analyst.
- Experience working with Google BigQuery (GBQ) and other Google native tools.
- General knowledge of machine learning concepts and familiarity with tools such as Spark, Kubernetes, and Airflow/Vertex/Composer.
- Familiarity with third-party data vendors and integrating external data sources into internal systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Proven track record of success in product management roles, particularly in the data engineering domain.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive consensus.
- Analytical mindset with a passion for leveraging data to drive business outcomes.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
