Job Purpose We are looking for an experienced professional, who will work closely with Product Directors, Product Owners, Enterprise Architects, and Engineering teams to build data products and technical solutions that help enable R&D. This role is responsible for leading data engineering teams to drive the execution of data engineering projects. As a senior member in R&D Operations, he/she will stay updated with emerging trends and technologies in data engineering, data mesh, generative AI and AI/ML and apply them to GSK’s data initiatives. About R&D Digital & Tech, R&D Operations R&D Digital & Tech is at the forefront, working synergistically with R&D business functions and applying industry-leading technologies, a product-centric org structure, and an agile delivery approach to deliver value. R&D Operations addresses the business needs of Portfolio management & governance bodies, Pipeline Project Management, Strategy Resource Management, R&D Finance and Business Development. Technology aligned to this area will cover the breadth of acquiring, managing and transforming operational data pertinent to planning and managing R&D programs. We equip R&D leaders with the essential details of upcoming project milestones, resource needs, and capacity so that trade-off decisions can be made nimbly in support of the evolving portfolio. The Associate Director – Data Engineering, R&D Operations role will provide you with the opportunity to lead key activities to progress in your career. These responsibilities include some of the following: Data & Solution Architecture – Ability to define data architecture strategy that aligns with business goals and ensures data availability & data accuracy. Ensuring data quality by implementing and enforcing data governance policies and best practices. Technology evaluation & selection – Execute Proof of concept and Proof of value for various technology solutions and frameworks. Continuous Learning - Staying updated with emerging technologies and trends in data engineering, and making recommendations for their adoption wherever appropriate. Collaboration & communication – Collaborate and work closely with executives, stakeholders, and business teams to effectively communicate architecture strategy & clearly articulate the business value. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related discipline. 10+ years architecting and delivering software solutions. 5+ years leading a solutions delivery team. Hands-on experience with data engineering tools such as Pyspark / python using Databricks. Good experience on Azure PaaS services, Azure Data Factory, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), automated testing, data lakes, data warehouses. 3+ years architecting and delivering cloud-based software solutions using Azure. Basic understanding of data mesh concepts and principles. Stakeholder Management & Communication Skills. Strong creativity, problem-solving, customer focus, collaboration, attention to detail, and presentation skills. Ability to oversee and manage GSK and 3rd party technical resources. Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Experience with Reporting/Visualization tools. Experience in Snowflake, AI/ML. Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
