Job Description

As a Manager of Data Engineer, your responsibility is to lead a data engineering team, develop new or improve existing data products as we establish a meta data-driven, big data solution, processing and transforming data to produce top-notch data assets for our clients. You will work with enthusiastic, goal-driven Data Engineers to resolve complex issues. You will liaise with Operations and Delivery departments to render market-oriented data solutions to our clients. You will offer hands-on technical leadership, guiding, coaching, and mentoring your international team members, handling and allocating technical workloads, while ensuring we persistently improve and deliver superior solutions. You will lead and develop a high-performing data engineering team that is receptive to change, perpetually improving, and swiftly builds, tests, refines, and scales data transformational solutions that generate incremental business value for our clients and partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate or aggregate vast, compound data sets that satisfy functional and non-functional business needs
  • Document demands from End Users to development user narratives, capturing all details and acceptance guidelines required
  • Detect, design, and implement internal progress improvements: automating manual methods, optimizing data builds, and initiating data QA and reporting
  • Coordinate with inter-departmental teams, such as Identity and Data Science teams, to formulate directional roadmaps, create new data products, and manage priorities to fulfill business needs, assuring each team has the required data
  • Manage a budget, including infrastructure, software, and cloud-based expenses
  • Provide daily hands-on guidance and mentoring to team members, offering powerful analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting expertise and advice
  • Review designs, code, plans, strategies, etc. as well as evaluate data outcomes with high attention to details to assure the delivery of superior solutions
  • Assess, recommend, and initiate improvements in processes and procedures, evaluating new strategies, industry standards, novel tools, etc.
  • Develop and lead motivated, high-performing team members that produce superior solutions, meeting targets and delivering results
  • Liaise with Product Management and IT to establish and maintain a strong working environment for development including infrastructure and agile processes
  • Command the development of Proof of Concepts for new or updated data assets
  • Make data build or release issues your priority when needed
  • Support integration with internal solutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science or an equivalent experience
  • 10 or more years of experience with data engineering, data modeling and/or data processing
  • 8 or more years of experience leading teams
  • 8 or more years or equivalent experience in developing and implementing production grade systems, applications or big data solutions
  • 5 or more years of experience with SQL, relational databases, and data warehouses
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with Snowflake
  • Experience in cloud-based technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience working in Agile teams and CI/CD environments
  • Experience with Linux; experience with Windows is a plus
  • Experience with Jenkins, Airflow, or other orchestration tools
  • Experience with code repositories such as Git, Bitbucket, Github, etc.
  • Experience in Tableau is a plus

  • Powerful analytic skills working with B2B, B2C, and Digital data assets for the purposes of customer experience marketing and analytics
  • Able to conduct root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer distinct business queries and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Able to establish processes that support data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
  • Proven ability to manipulate, process and extract value from large disconnected datasets
  • Exhibited strong organizational, leadership, and communication capabilities
  • Familiarity with statistical ideas, modeling, and the ability to integrate data and analytics
  • Able to inspire and motivate while instilling accountability and delivering results that meet business expectations
  • Able to collaborate across organizations with all levels of leadership to create plans, strategies, and set priorities
  • Able to simplify and easily communicate complex topics such that agreement or approval is obtained
  • Able to swiftly learn new emerging technologies and recommend or apply innovative ideas to resolve problems
  • Able to perform under pressure and optimize team to achieve a business goal
  • Able to manage uncertainty, asking questions to gain clarity and understanding
  • Able to investigate and determine solutions to solve complex problems, providing options and recommendations to business or leadership for decisions
  • Able to analyze data, with high attention to detail, and identify data patterns and irregularities
  • Able to assess and manage big data and data that scales

Additional Information

The expected range for this position is $113,000-$174,500. Salary is based on a range of factors including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and geography.
