About the team Stripe Payments Conversion fuses product development and machine learning to enhance Stripe’s authentication and authorization success rates on a large scale, maintaining competitive transactional cost and reducing fraud losses for our merchants. Balancing these factors correctly is crucial for Stripe’s long-term success and profitability. We maximize our merchant’s financial success while minimizing their losses and Stripe’s risk. The Payments Conversion team comprises backend, full stack, and machine learning engineers eager to resolve this issue through unique product ideas and influential models. We are beginning numerous new efforts, where you can significantly affect the structure, execution, and design decisions of these systems. What you’ll do You will be vital in driving one of Stripe’s primary objectives - molding how Stripe sets itself apart as the best option for maximizing payments conversion efficiently and at a large scale in a competitive payment service provider ecosystem. You will be leading efforts spanning multiple teams including Payments, Risk, and Fraud to achieve this objective. You will also collaborate with external partners, including networks and issuers, and our largest merchants. Responsibilities This endeavor will encompass delineating the strategy inclusive of modeling, predictive data, automation, and user experience that equips our merchant with actionable performance information. Define a strategy that allows Stripe and our users to understand, detect, and intervene to protect their businesses, and Stripe, from fraud losses while maximizing authentication and authorization success. Design and launch new models to progressively improve Stripe’s business-critical models and systems that understand a user’s conversion performance. Own and drive cross-functional collaborations with organizations including GTM, Financial Partnerships, Product, etc., and partner closely with the leadership/stakeholders of various teams within those organizations. As a leader within Engineering, assist with team growth and development while maintaining a high bar for excellence and technical curiosity. Minimum requirements Demonstrated experience of spearheading company-wide initiatives encompassing multiple teams and organizations OR employing profound domain expertise to influence tech roadmap planning and implementation. Demonstrated ability to effectively cooperate across multiple teams and stakeholders to drive business results. Demonstrated ability to balance execution and speed with security, reliability, and efficiency. Experience in mentoring, and investing in the development engineers and peers. Preferred qualifications 15 or more years of engineering experience OR equivalent combined work experience mirroring domain expertise as relevant to this position. Experience with applied machine learning to practical problems. Experience with applied analytics and data-driven decision-making. Experience with payments or fraud.
