What You'll Do

• Lead Applied Science initiatives for the Customer Care department.
• Utilize your scientific expertise to solve complex business problems through the development and deployment of production systems.
• Understand the intricacies of Zalando and the Customer Care organization to maximize business value using Applied Science.
• Conduct ground-breaking research in Natural Language Processing, Generative models, and related fields.
• Collaborate with peers, engineering and product leads to innovate and improve customer solutions.
• Engage with Zalando's Applied Science community and mentor team members to maintain high standards.
• Ensure operational excellence by optimizing for efficiency, cost, and security, and manage your team's software in production.

What We're Looking For

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Extensive research experience and expertise in Natural Language Processing, deep learning, and related areas.
• Experience with various Large Language Models like GPT, Vertex, Llama, etc.
• Expertise in machine learning system architectures at scale.
• Proficiency in Python and its libraries, such as pandas, numpy, matplotlib, and ML/DL frameworks like sklearn, TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Git, AWS services, SQL, and Databricks.
• Commitment to writing high-performance, reusable code, including various tests.
• Ability to explain project details, benefits, and impact to diverse audiences.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
