Job Description

Apply your expertise in state-of-the-art machine learning technologies to difficult problems on noisy high-dimensional data. Work in a multidisciplinary team that includes experts in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, Electronics, Environmental Applications, and Semiconductor Manufacturing. The group develops algorithms to process subtle signals buried in noisy spectral data to aid in the construction of advanced semiconductors, predict failures, monitor the environment, and protect lives from toxic chemicals. Qualifications

Position Overview:
In this role, you will manage, lead, and advise a group applying state-of-the-art machine learning technologies to complex problems on noisy high-dimensional data. This team operates within a multi-disciplinary framework that includes experts in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, Electronics, Semiconductor Manufacturing, and Environmental Applications. Research topics will garner high visibility due to their substantial potential to increase the value of global products.

You will be granted ample freedom to explore a broad array of novel approaches, you will collaborate closely with scientific and business colleagues on substantial amounts of sensor data, and concentrate on writing high value code.

Responsibilities:

  • 3-5+ years of experience leading, guiding, and managing a team of scientists and researchers applying advanced techniques to large multi-dimensional spaces (Required)
  • Actively participate in global data analytic initiatives
  • Research and devise models for the identification of chemical compounds in sensor data from instruments
  • Develop experiments and software for the collection and processing of datasets for the training and testing of your models
  • Qualify and quantify the performance of prototypes, both within a lab setting and in the field
  • Assist in the intellectual property strategy of INFICON

Preferred Experience:

  • A PhD or equivalent in Computer Science or Applied Mathematics, with a specialization in Data Science and Machine Learning is highly desirable. However, those with pertinent experience are encouraged to apply
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience managing a research team or group
  • Fluency with Python, Linux, Scientific Computing, and Machine Learning Libraries
  • Accomplished Software Developer with experience training and testing ML modules on large data sets

Preferred Background:

  • Signal processing
  • Proven proficiency in statistical ML and neural networks
  • Published papers and/or code for analyzing sensor data or process control data
  • Prior work with unsupervised or semi-supervised ML for anomaly detection
  • Experience with pyTorch or Tensorflow
  • Experience with multivariate time series analysis and modeling techniques
  • Knowledge of Physics or Chemometrics or Process Control
  • C++ Software Development

Additional Information

For New York, the anticipated salary range for this position is between $130k and $180k per year. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law.
