We are seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial, hands-on data scientist capable of establishing a world-class data analysis and machine learning practice at TrustEngine. This individual will collaborate with our engineering and product teams to construct the data infrastructure and conduct data analyses that will generate insights and predictive machine learning, powering the industry's only Borrower Intelligence Platform.

The ideal candidate will design and implement both ad hoc and automated analysis pipelines, while also delivering relevant data summaries to a wide array of stakeholders, including C-level executives both within and outside the company. This role requires a data-first mindset and a consistent readiness to be a "do-er", getting their hands dirty. This individual will yield unique insights that provide value to stakeholders.

As the company expands, and the discipline scales up, this role will transition to becoming the leader of a growing data science team - attracting data science talent through contributions to the company's culture and thought leadership within the broader data science community.

We operate quickly and in an agile fashion, so flexibility and a tendency towards gradual progress is essential for this role. We aim to move fast, permit imperfections, but remain honest about these imperfections as we improve. The ultimate objective is to assist borrowers in understanding how to achieve financial freedom by helping them choose the best borrowing options, and providing lenders with information on how to offer the best value to borrowers. Our goal is to offer data-first education and advice to both sides of the lending relationship.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop an enterprise-grade data analysis pipeline suitable for generating production-level insights and suitable for machine learning applications and data science research
  • Create production insights that fuel customer advice and develop our capabilities to generate predictive decisions
  • Evaluate new data sources for their potential to enhance insights and predictions
  • Define requirements for product and engineering teams to develop insights-focused feature sets in the product
  • Convert raw data into digestible insights to be used for decision-making, research and communication
  • Present complex analyses as concise, compelling, and easy-to-understand narratives to share with the broader company and external customers, fostering confidence and positioning TrustEngine as a valuable partner
  • Teach data science/statistical data analysis concepts to the wider team

Requirements

  • A degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or another quantitative discipline
  • Exceptionally strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical work to a non-technical audience
  • A strong passion for and considerable experience in conducting empirical research and answering challenging questions with data
  • Self-directed, able to align with business priorities and define pathways to success, both pragmatically and aspirationally
  • An attitude that concentrates on the global success of the team, company and collaborators both inside and outside the immediate organization
  • Experience with large-scale data analytics tools and platforms such as Apache Hive and Snowflake
  • Experience with relational databases, proficient at SQL
  • Experience in Pandas, R, SAS or other tools suitable for large scale data preparation and analysis
  • Experience with data mining, machine learning, statistical modeling tools and their underlying algorithms
  • Ability to gain a thorough understanding of the organization’s hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
