Yahoo's Analytics Research and Data team works with one of the world's largest online advertising and audience datasets. We provide quick, clean, and relevant data for Yahoo's consumer and advertising businesses, as well as key metrics and insights about Yahoo users. We're developing next-generation technologies to enhance user and advertiser experiences through complex, scalable data platforms, presenting growing and engaging challenges.
The Revenue Assurance and Data Monitoring team is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to create and operate smart anomaly detection alerts and dashboards on our Consumer Products (Homepage, Mail, News, Sports, Finance, etc.), and work with a wide variety of product teams to resolve critical revenue-impacting issues, and conducting ad hoc analysis to understand complex marketplace trends.
Responsibilities:
-Construct, maintain, and operate anomaly detection and monitoring tools in a public cloud (AWS or GCP) as well as on-premise Linux/HDFS environments. Most software development is backend, but some basic UI development is involved as well.
-Conduct data investigations over a variety of ad platform data
-Understand the marketplace trends and assist with revenue trends.
-Collaborate closely with product teams to identify metrics and set optimal alerting thresholds and logic that use basic statistical methods and often advanced machine learning methods, along with backtesting of historical issues.
-Develop alerting strategies based on stakeholder feedback, as well as issue detection effectiveness.
-Investigate data and monitor data quality – partner closely with product teams and provide clear, actionable requirements.
Required Skills/Experience:
-BS/MS in a highly-quantitative field (Computer Science, Info Systems, Analytics, Mathematics). Preference for those with Statistical Analysis and Machine Learning coursework/experience.
-Experience in analysis across complex data sets, data explorations, data issue triage
-Experience with programming and scripting languages like Java, C++, Python, Perl, SQL, and Unix or Linux systems
-Experience with big data technologies like Hive, Hadoop, MapReduce, Spark, PIG, and AWS.
-Demonstrated use of web analytics, metrics, and benchmarking to drive decisions
-Proven record of proactively establishing and following through on commitments
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Excellent interpersonal, organizational, creative, and communications skills
-Team player with a positive attitude who drives growth results
-Strong work ethic and solid core values (honesty, integrity, creativity)
-Problem solver who consistently considers ways to improve
